Inside the Teen Active: Hemp, Chia, Flax and Sunflower
August 24, 2026
What the Teen Active is built for
Teenagers burn through energy, from school sport to long study sessions, and many of them skip breakfast or reach for sugary drinks. Teen Active is a seed shake meant to offer a more nourishing alternative.
It is a snack, not a meal replacement, and it sits best alongside regular meals.
What each seed brings
Hemp: Hemp is the protein seed of the group: it supplies all nine essential amino acids plus unsaturated fats, magnesium and iron. Its flavour is mild and slightly grassy-nutty, so it blends into fruit and cocoa easily.
Chia: Chia seeds soak up many times their weight in liquid and form a gel, which thickens a shake naturally. Nutritionally they contribute fibre, a plant omega-3 fat called ALA, and minerals such as calcium and magnesium.
Flax: Flax is one of the best-known plant sources of ALA and lignans, and it adds gentle, nutty fibre. In powder form its nutrients are easier to reach than in whole seeds, which is one reason powders are so handy.
Sunflower: Sunflower seeds are rich in vitamin E, a fat-soluble antioxidant vitamin, and also carry selenium, B vitamins and polyunsaturated fats. Their mild, creamy flavour blends in without taking over.
Hemp supplies plant protein, chia and flax add fibre and omega-3 fats, and sunflower contributes vitamin E and B vitamins. Teenagers have high nutritional needs for their age, so a snack with several of these is useful.
Who it suits
It suits teens who play sport, who are always on the go, or who are tired of the same snacks. It also suits families who prefer plant-based options.
When to drink it
Before practice, after school, or as a quick breakfast on the way out are sensible times. A Medium 16 oz is a common choice for older teens, and a Small works for younger ones.
Encourage teens to see the shake as fuel for what they already do, not as a body-shaping tool. Pair it with regular meals, water and sleep. If a teen becomes anxious about food or weight, that is a signal to speak with a doctor, not to add or remove shakes.
How to customise it
Banana with milk makes it feel like a classic smoothie; strawberry and mango are lighter. Keep sweetener small since teens often already get plenty of sugar elsewhere. A Medium 16 oz is a common choice for teens, and a Large 20 oz may suit big training days. Always check that the shake complements, rather than replaces, regular meals. Every Naturalition shake comes in Small 12 oz, Medium 16 oz or Large 20 oz, with a free choice of liquid, sweetener and one fruit.
Who should check with a doctor first
Parents should check with a doctor or dietitian if a teen has food allergies, an eating disorder history, a growth concern, or a medical condition. Shakes should never be used to replace meals or to restrict food, and teens who train hard should have a balanced diet with proper guidance.
